Yesterday was a clear Winters day, so I thought I’d get some more sunset photos from somewhere different. I’d noticed a small new subdivision here in Pakenham, which is actually on the side of a hill with a new rest / picnic area at the top, so I’d been planning to have a look up there for a while.
That hill turned out to be a good local vantage point for photography. When I fist got there, about 30 minutes before sunset, a family of Kangaroos seemed just as keen to keep an eye on me, as I was on getting a few shots of them!
I then changed to my fixed 40mm lens (on the Nikon D5100) and started concentrating on the setting sun. Moving around a fair bit, trying different spots on the hill, my favourite pic from the shoot is actually this one, looking at the sun through the new undercover picnic area.

Back in April I had a little flutter with Stock Photography, but was put back in my place by Shutterstock when they rejected my initial submissions.
Today Flickr announced, on their blog, “Curated Connections: A new Flickr licensing experience” which sounds like their brand for Stock Photography, but they say it will be an easy and transparent way to earn money from your photos, so I’ve signed up!
I actually recently sold the rights to one photo to a US website who found me via Flickr, so I know the potential is there. With 6,000 photos on Flickr, I’m very interested to see what “Curated Connections” will do for me.

Yesterday, my younger son and I, were chasing the Steamrail special steam train through Gippsland. The vintage train ran from Melbourne to Traralgon, we caught up with it for photos at Pakenham, Warragul, Yarragon and Traralgon.

You can find my photos from the day in my 2014 Trains Gallery (or the archive here).

This week, my 11 year old son took part in a junior skills programme with the Essendon Football Club (AFL – Aussie Rules). I was there, with my trusty Nikon D5100 and 300mm zoom lens, along with my wife and 5 year old daughter, braving the cold rain.
My son had a great time, and I got a few good pics of him with the footy. I’m also happy with this cute picture of my wife and daughter on the sidelines, under the umbrella.
