Boxing Day Test Match Cricket, MCG

Boxing Day Test Match Cricket, MCG

Test Match Cricket

My 13 year old son, Brad, and I went along for the first two days of the traditional Boxing Day Test Match cricket at the MCG.  This year Australia is playing Pakistan.

Some people find cricket boring, but we find there’s something about sitting back and watching a day of cricket enjoyable.  Especially when Australia is playing.  Even when the pace is pretty slow.  Even when rain stops play.  Except when rain stops play.

On Monday we watched good morning and early afternoon sessions, before rain suspended play.  Tuesday saw play up until lunch, when rain again stopped play for over three hours.  They resumed around 3:30 for a couple of hours before rain resulted in an early finish again.

The major disappointment from with the weather is that we didn’t get to see Australia bat at all.  If it hadn’t been for the rain delays, Australia probably would have come in mid afternoon on Day Two.  Despite that disappointment, we still enjoyed ourselves.

We’ll be keenly watching the remainder of the match on TV, hopefully we will see an Australian victory.

Photos

As you may know, I don’t mid taking photos, and took along a pocket point and shoot with power zoom – A Nikon Coolpix A900.  I was hopeful of taking some half decent pictures at the MCG, without lugging around my usual gear.

Check out my gallery below.

Watching the cricket with Brad at the MCG.

Yesterday, 11 year old Brad and I went to Day 1 of the Boxing Day cricket Test Match at the MCG.

Being a five day match, the game naturally doesn’t flow as quick as the shorter forms of the game.  We were worried when David Warner was dismissed without scoring, but Australia dug in and ended up with a respectable score.  I ‘ll admit that at times we both had a couple of snoozes during some slow moving parts of the game, but overall we had a good day.
