Waiting for the Sun and Clouds

Yesterday I told you about my dawn photography at Hastings Marina.  Well I managed to get a couple of shots showing a pinkish sky, but for most of the time the sunrise was hidden behind clouds on the horizon.

I was just about ready to pack up, when I noticed a big patch of clear blue sky making its way towards the eastern horizon, so I waited a half hour or so until the Sun finally poked up from behind the clouds. It wasn’t pink any more, but there were some nice rays of light spreading across the sky. To add another element to the shot, I threw a rock into the water to get rings of ripples disturbing the reflection.  I’m very happy with both of these shots.

Hastings Sunrise

Last weekend I was photographing the sunset from Grantville, on Western Port Bay.  This week I found myself across the bay at Hastings, capturing the sunrise from the local Marina.  As my bad luck with cloud cover on the horizon continues, there was only a brief moment where the sky turned bright pink before the sun was hidden again, but I’m still happy with the results.

(In-between shots, my son and I had a bit of fun skimming rocks on the otherwise mirror smooth water.)
